Managing Editor
ACS International (ACSI) is looking for a Managing Editor in China.
ACS International, Ltd. (ACSI) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Chemical Society (ACS). ACSI is comprised of representatives that serve the scientific community worldwide. Employees represent products and services provided by ACS divisions, including ACS Publications and CAS to the world’s most important scientific companies, government organizations, global patent offices and academic institutions to promote research and discovery.
ACS Publications is a Division of the ACS and has all the characteristics of a medium-large scientific and technical publishing organization. It is one of two Divisions charged with serving the dual function of generating a reliable annual surplus to support the Society’s programmatic activities, while also fulfilling a core goal of the Society in advancing knowledge in the field of chemistry and the chemical enterprise. The Division publishes 85+high-quality peer-reviewed journals covering the breadth of chemistry and allied fields, as well as numerous other high-quality products and services of benefit to the global community.
ACSI is rapidly expanding its global editorial presence in key markets,and the Managing Editor will have the opportunity to be part of this exciting phase. The incumbent will focuson managing a portfolio of journals and ensuring their long-term strategic success. This role involves overseeing the editorial management of new ACS journals, with responsibilities including:
· Setting up the editorial team
· Defining and monitoring the journal strategy,including setting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
· Workingwith global teams to ensure a successful launch, smooth operation, andongoing support for the journal
The Managing Editor will report to the Senior Managing Editor of ACS Publications, based in Beijing, and will collaborate with global teams.
Accountabilities:
· Support the growth of the ACS journal portfolioin China.
· Lead the launch process for new journals inaccordance with company procedures.
· Manage and develop journals in alignment withthe company strategy by creating and implementing journal business plans; ensure that set financial and editorial targets are met.
· Collaborate with editors, partners and ACS Publications staff to ensure the efficiency, timeliness, and high quality of published content, as well as to facilitate appropriate promotion.
· Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with editors, partners and other stakeholders, serving as their primary point of contact for all journal-related matters.
· Collaborate with global stakeholders to contribute to the overarching strategy of ACS Publications and participate in division-wide projects.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
· An advanced degree (Ph.D.) in Chemistry or allied sciences is preferred.
· A minimum of 5 years of experience in STM journals, with a proven track record of success in content acquisition and editorial management, is preferred.
· An established network within the chemical sciences community would be advantageous.
· Ability to work effectively under pressure andmanage multiple priorities.
· Strong interpersonal and relationship-buildingskills.
· A team player with excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills in English and Chinese.
· The position will require moderate travel within China, as well as periodic international travel.
