Managing Editor

ACS Publications is a Division of the ACS with a core goal of the Society in advancing knowledge in the field of chemistry and the chemical enterprise. The Division publishes 85+ high-quality peer-reviewed journals covering the breadth of chemistry and allied fields, as well as numerous other high-quality products and services of benefit to the global community. ACSI has been promoting the publications in China for years. In its endeavor for a wider outreach and expansion across the globe, ACSI is rapidly expanding its global editorial presence in key markets and the Managing Editor will have the opportunity to be part of this exciting phase. In this new editorial role, the Managing Editor will focus on engaging the Chinese scientific community and authors to attract high-quality submissions in the Chemical Sciences and related disciplines.
The incumbent will report to the Senior Managing Editor in the Shanghai Office and will work with the editorial teams and journal Editors in China and globally.
Responsibilities
o Work closely with journal Editors and editorial teams to plan and implement commissioning strategies and journal development initiatives
o Build and maintain strong relationships with institutions and individuals to develop a robust network of leading and emerging researchers
o Drive content growth and ensure the quality and value of the commissioned content from China.
o Engage ACS Editors, EAB members and academic communities in China to design and implement activities and programs that effectively promote ACS journals.
o Collaborate with global stakeholders including editorial, production, and marketing teams to contribute to the overall strategy of the ACS journals and division-wide projects.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
The incumbent must be highly self-motivated and be comfortable working in a complex, matrix-based international environment with internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent should be a good team player who is also capable of working independently. In addition to these general skills and personality traits, the following specific qualifications are required:
o A Doctorate degree in a field related to biological chemistry, chemical biology, or medicinal chemistry is preferred.
o Minimum 2 year experience in content commissioning within STM publishing and/or post-doctoral experience is preferred.
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills and, with a genuine enthusiasm for networking and building professional relationships.
o Solid understanding of recent trends and developments in biology, chemistry, medicine, and related fields, with the ability to identify high-impact emerging areas of research.
o An established network within the biological chemistry, chemical biology, chemistry or medicinal chemistry communities will be advantageous.
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Chinese.
o Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with adaptivity to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Willingness to travel extensively within China and occasionally overseas
