Lead Editor, Strategic Growth

ACS Publications is a Division of the ACS with a core goal of the Society in advancing knowledge in the field of chemistry and the chemical enterprise. The Division publishes 85+ high-quality peer-reviewed journals covering the breadth of chemistry and allied fields, as well as numerous other high-quality products and services of benefit to the global community. ACSI has been promoting the publications in China for years. In its endeavor for a wider outreach and expansion across the globe, ACSI is rapidly expanding its global editorial presence in key markets and the Lead Editor will have the opportunity to be part of this exciting phase. In this new editorial role, the Lead Editor will spearhead our growth initiatives by enhancing overall internal operational process. This pivotal role is responsible for identifying content growth opportunities, developing and executing strategies to streamline internal processes, and supporting the content development team in converting activities into content growth.
The incumbent will report to the Associate Director, Content Development in Beijing Office and will work with the editorial teams and journal editors in China and globally.
Responsibilities
o Work with the Associate Director, Content Development to develop strategies focused on optimizing internal processes and cross-cultural collaboration to drive content growth for proprietary journals in China, Japan, and Korea.
o Identify new content growth opportunities through strategic engagement with key stakeholders, and lead pilot initiatives in China to test, refine, and scale innovative content models.
o Identify operational opportunities and bottlenecks; design and optimize processes to strengthen operational capabilities and drive efficiency, scalability, and sustainable content growth.
o Collaborate closely with editorial, operations, marketing, and other departments to ensure the efficient and successful execution of strategic initiatives and contribute to portfolio-level and division-wide projects.
o Actively foster collaboration among cross-cultural teams China, Korea, Japan, and the headquarters to achieve strategic goals, serving as a key liaison to ensure clear communication and alignment.
o Responsible for the overall content growth of a portfolio of approx. 20 journals, managing one direct report.
Qualifications and Experience
The incumbent must be highly self-motivated and able to thrive in a complex, matrixed, international environment involving collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. In addition to these qualities, the following specific qualifications are required:
o A Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, environmental science, or a related field is preferred.
o Extensive experience in STM publishing, ideally 5+ years, is preferred.
o Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in cross-cultural and interdisciplinary teams.
o Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in both English and Chinese.
o Strong organizational, project management, and leadership abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities under pressure and adapt effectively in a dynamic environment.
o Meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
o Demonstrated strategic thinking with methodical execution skills.
o Practical experience in data analysis is a plus.
o Willingness to travel extensively within China and occasionally overseas.
